As the Head of Talent at Capital One Canada, Sonia is disrupting the current status quo in HR. Her purpose is to collapse silos and create an environment where Capital One attracts excellent candidates and engages them throughout their entire associate life cycle. She has recently done this by breaking down the way things are currently done, looking at the best possible outcome and delivering new and innovative ways to bring unique and enhanced associate experiences to life. In her current role, Sonia is responsible for Talent Acquisition, Learning and Development, Associate Relations, Diversity & Inclusion and HR Risk.
Since joining Capital One in 1999, Sonia has had a successful career in HR leading many HR functions including recruitment, HR projects, HR Systems, and Associate Relations before taking on an HRBP role in 2013.
Sonia is known by her colleagues and clients as a highly skilled, motivated and personable HR professional with a proven track record of building strong trusted relationships. Through her coaching mindset, Sonia is constantly challenging her clients and team to consider alternative perspectives to drive innovation in HR. Also, known for her pragmatic approach to solve complex business problems, she is able to balance the needs of the business and HR ensuring high value delivery.
In her previous role as an HRBP for Operations, Legal, Compliance and Risk both in Canada and the UK, she was responsible for supporting Executives deliver the people strategy during a time of significant transformation.
Sonia graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a BA Hons in Business Studies with a concentration in Human Resources and then graduated with a Post Graduate with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in the UK. Sonia is also pursuing her coaching accreditation with the International Coaching Federation.
Sonia currently lives in Toronto with her husband and two boys.
