Irena Stropnik

Director & Team Lead, Lean, Scotia Bank

As Director & Team Lead, Lean, Irena is responsible for the effective execution of the Bank’s Lean program across Operational units both in Canada and the Caribbean. This includes the implementation of the Lean Management System across the business and building new capabilities focused on the customer and creating a culture of continuous improvement.

Irena joined Scotiabank in 1994 and has held progressively more senior roles in the areas of Collections, Branch Banking, Operations Support, Retail Compliance and Projects. Before her most recent appointment, she was Director of the Prairie Region Centralized Accounting Units in Calgary and Winnipeg.

In addition to her day-to-day responsibilities, Irena has also provided leadership to the Young Women of Influence and Scotia Women’s Connection networks in Calgary. She is the past Global Co-Chair of the Bank’s Pride Employee Resource Group, and is a current member of the LGBT+ Inclusion Council

Irena holds a Bachelor of Nursing (with Distinction) from Athabasca University and a Master of Business Administration from Dalhousie University. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers and has been certified as a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt through McGill University.
